WHY BROMLEY BRIGHTER BEGINNINGS?

Bromley Brighter Beginnings (BBB) is a registered charity that relies on the power of community to provide essential baby and child-related items to families living in financial hardship across the London Borough of Bromley. Our mission is to relieve the pressure of poverty on these families in a practical way.

Since being set up in 2012, BBB has helped hundreds of vulnerable families and children. These families are referred to us by professionals such as midwives, social workers, health visitors, GPs, refuge officers and other agencies within the borough. Many have escaped domestic violence, (often arriving in refuges at very short notice with little personal possessions), some are teenage mums who have been in care or have no support from their own families, and others are just scraping by on very low incomes in poor housing.

Financial support is essential so that Bromley Brighter Beginnings can continue to provide programs to support these children and families and to raise awareness of the level of poverty in the borough.

HOW YOUR MONEY IS SPENT

While BBB is proud to promote recycling by passing on many ‘pre-loved’ items donated by our generous supporters often many of the items we offer must be purchased brand new. These items include:

  • Newborn Pack items such as nappies, baby wipes, toiletries and sanitary items
  • Electrical items, such as sterilisers and baby monitors
  • Logo school uniform items such as blazers and PE kits
  • Mattresses for moses baskets and cot beds
  • Bed for Every Child campaign items, including a brand-new bed complete with storage, a mattress, duvet, pillows and covers

£30 purchases a new cot mattress to go in a donated cot

£100 pays for a newborn pack for a new mum and new baby – including nappies, baby clothes, wipes and sanitary towels

£150 buys the logo elements of a secondary school uniform and PE kit

£300 pays for a child to have their own new bed, mattress and bedding
